Since the creation of Appalachian Corridor
The global conservation strategy designed and implemented by Appalachian Corridor considerably
accelerated the process of protecting natural areas. Results of the past few years are witness
to the promising future of this ambitious initiative. Since the beginning of the Appalachian Corridor
conservation project, the size of the area protected in perpetuity has grown to close to 10,000 hectares
(about 24,700 acres). Thanks to the acquisition of the Domtar property by Nature Conservancy Canada, almost two-thirds of the Sutton Mountains massif, or 65 km², are now protected in perpetuity, have a Nature Reserve on private land statut and represent the largest private protected area in Quebec.
